A jug of wine,
a loaf of bread,
a silky blanket
is so softly spread.
A swarm of ants,
swift lightning’s crack--
Off to McDonald’s
for a take-home snack!

I did some "If I Were..." poetry activities with the students.
If I were you,
and you were me,
you'd see yourself
instead of me!
If I were rain,
soft and wet,
I'd fall for you--
yep, you bet!
If I were a tree,
tall and green,
I'd like to see,
not just be seen.
If I were a cloud,
fluffy and white,
I'd stay up all day
and then all night.
Fun and easy poetry lesson.

It's hard to believe I've been here at Xanga for 11 years. Some of you Relics have watched my kids grow up--and I have watched yours. Here's to us!
Happy New Year, Xanga Friends!
Gifts of Gold
Times are hard, money’s tight;
nerves are frayed, people fight.
Though not found ‘neath a tree,
gifts of gold can be free.
Hold a hand, give a hug;
put a smile on your mug.
Pat a back, feed a friend;
find some fences to mend.
Cut some slack, eat some crow;
drop a grudge— save your dough.
Times are hard, money’s tight;
things seem dark— be a light!

Merry Christmas, Xanga Friends!
This weekend is the Florida State Poets Association state convention to be held in Lake Mary, Florida. Our numbers are really down apparently due to the economy. The hotel said many groups are having the same problem. It should still be fun, just more intimate. I actually have two new poems to post afterward.
God be with all who were touched by the tragedy of 10 years ago-- all of us.
For Mother's 80th, I took her to my brother's by train--she won't fly. We got a bedroom car. It was a nice experience. Like the cruise, the food was very good, and the service was wonderful. I really enjoyed sleeping to the train's rythm.
Connecticut is lovely, with lots of historical homes to visit.
We also drove to Sturbridge Village in Massachusets; it is a reenactment of colonial village life.
But my biggest desire was enjoy the lobster again. It did not disappoint.

I'd never cruised before. I didn't have to drive, read maps, or worry about breaking down. The food was good, the shows were well done, and the snorkeling was amazing.
Tomorrow, I'm boarding a train to Connecticut. Mother and I got a sleeper car, so it should be comfortable. I foresee much lobster in my near future!
So far, I've been enjoying my summer break. I've been birding on Florida's east coast in Brevard County.

OK, this isn't a bird, but you get the idea...
I'll be in Titusville, spending the weekend with my mom. Have a wonderful Mothers Day, Xanga Moms!
