  • Disturbing

In my Site Feedback for today, I have a new "comment" on an 8 year old post (3/15/02); actually, it is an advertisement.  In my post, I had mentioned floor tile.  The ad is for a tile company. The entrant's name in Site Feedback appears as  non-Xanga, while the comment at my blog is prefaced as floor tile.  If advertisers begin this, our blogs will be littered with junk in no time.

    The comment:

floor tile Take a walk on the natural side with stunning and luxurious floor tiles from The Tile Shop. Clicking on floor tile took me here:
http://www.best-tile.com/product_cat_list/Floor-Tile-c1.html  It is a web site.  At the bottom of the page:

Clicking on the Home tab, I found:

Clicking on the name, non-Xanga in my New Comments, results in this:

    Info icon

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

I find this to be very disturbing and invasive. Has anyone else experienced this yet? I'm betting you will.

  • Yes this is worrying .
Some days ago on my current post I got some "comments" that were advertisings . They came from "Xangans " . When I click on their names I find a empty site .
I blocked those users . But in your case there was not even an empty  Xanga site !
    I hope this won't become a habit !
    Love

    Michel

  • Did you flag it?  Not that Xanga actually cares. My son gets porn  ads on his site from one particular Xanga for years now. It gets closed down and reopened with exactly the same name plus a number each time. I went to report it yesterday and nothing I sent to Xanga Parent Concern/abuse would go through.

  • @fauquet - That's a good idea.  If it's a Xanga site I will block it, and hopefully it won't return with a different number like Petra's son's bane.

  • @SavonDuJour -

I went to Flag and then Frequently Asked Questions.  For a similar situation, Xanga suggested checking no to "Allow anonymous comments".  We'll see if that helps. Thanks.
