End of the Year Panic
The budget cuts have hit home. They cut three "units" at my school-- one of them was my class. I wasn't the last ESE person hired, but I was the last that didn't have continuing contract. Because there were no official openings at my school when the deadline passed, they couldn't offer me continuing contract at all. I didn't see that one coming. After being there 3 1/2 years with excellent reviews, I thought I'd get offered my contract and get placed somewhere if I was cut, even if it had to be at another school. Wrong. Ouch. Ego bruise...
Now, the panic has begun to set in. They say I am welcome to apply for any positions in the county that get posted. A principal that hires me may choose to offer me a contract after just one year of working for him/her. Or, it could be like a cohort from my graduating class who got cut from her school last year. Her new principal wants her to work a second year at her new school to get to know her better... that will make a total of 4 1/2 years. Usually, contracts are offered after 3 years service with good reviews.
With the new legislation they have been trying to pass (to do away with continuing contract), I wonder if I will ever get mine. But, I'll worry about that later. For now, I'm just praying for a job. I know there are many similarly affected Americans in even worse situations than I am. I pray for us all.

You can have my job because I'm leaving and there will be a hole to fill. However, you must understand. I'm leaving for a reason. I will gladly take another job with a major pay cut but I have to get out of this current teaching job.
@traveler - I appreciate the offer, but I think the commute might be a bit of a problem.
I'm sorry your current job didn't work out. That will be a big job moving your "museum."
I am both surprised and sad for you , Cheri . This is really not a good news .
But keep hope . A teacher like you wil find easily but as you say it is frustrating .
You have all of my support and friendship
Love
Michel
I'm so sorry to hear that Cheri! I understand that panic, we have been there before. And just yesterday my neighbor was crying on my couch...her husband just lost his job. So many of us have been there and we've made it through...it's just the getting through part that's the kicker. I'll be praying for you. Here's a link with helpful resources--you don't have to be a member of our church to receive this employment help.

Thank you, Michel and Dawn.
I wish you good luck. I hope you get something you like very soon. Have you ever thought of working in the Caribbean for a couple of years?
@SavonDuJour - No, I hadn't thought of that; how would I even inquire? Any clue?
I can't seem to put a link on this with Chrome, but go here http://tiny.cc/CaribbeanGvtSites and look for education departments. Look for lists of schools on their websites and proceed from there. I think the schools usually pay return fares and a bonus if you stay for a two year contract.
@SavonDuJour - Thanks so much! I will check the websites.
